Torrent Freak has compiled some interesting statistics concerning the most pirated video games of 2011. In terms of the Xbox 360, it wasn’t Modern Warfare 3 or Battlefield 3 that took out the top spot – instead Epic’s shooter, Gears of War 3, took the “honors”.
Most Pirated Xbox 360 Games of 2011
- Gears of War 3 – 890,000 est. downloads
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 – 830,000 est. downloads
- Battlefield 3 – 760,000 est. downloads
- Forza Motorsport 4 – 720,000 est. downloads
- Kinect Sports: Season Two – 690,000 est. downloads
What’s also interesting about the results is that a not-quite-finished version of Gears of War 3 was leaked online prior to the release of the final version of the game. This may have prompted more people that normal to download it given that this same mishap also befell Crysis 2, which was the top pirated PC (and overall) game of 2011. Although it must be said Crysis 2′s release was also the subject of extreme levels of hype.
